Abdimalik Abdullahi, trading as Kestern, is the data controller for the personal data described in this notice. I am a sole trader registered in England and Wales. ICO registration number: 00013702744.

Candidate data (warm candidates only)
I process data on candidates who have contacted me, replied to my content, signed up to my email list, or been introduced by a third party. I do not process data on individuals who have not engaged with me in one of those ways.
Data held: name, contact details, CV and employment history, skills and stack, salary expectations and availability, screening notes.
Why: to match you to relevant roles, to contact you about opportunities, to keep a record of our prior conversations.
Lawful basis: legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR), as documented in my Legitimate Interests Assessment. This is the basis recognised by the ICO for recruitment of warm candidates.
Sharing your details with an employer
Your details are shared with a specific employer for a specific role only with your explicit consent for that role. You can withdraw that consent at any time before or during the process.
Lawful basis: consent (Article 6(1)(a)).
Screening call recordings
If a screening call is recorded, you will be asked for explicit consent at the start of the call. You can decline and still be considered. Recordings are used for internal analysis only and are never shared with a client.

Email list
If you subscribe to my email list, I hold your email address and any preferences you have set.
Why: to send you market data, hiring insights, and occasional role updates.
Lawful basis: consent (Article 6(1)(a)). You can unsubscribe at any time.
Client data
Data held: name, business contact details, role specifications, meeting notes.
Why: to provide recruitment services.
Lawful basis: contract or legitimate interests.
Outreach contacts (hiring managers and client-side staff)
Data held: name, role, company, contact channel, reason for contact.
Why: to initiate and maintain recruitment relationships.
Lawful basis: legitimate interests. These individuals are contacted in a professional capacity about their company's hiring.
Retention: 24 months from last contact.

I do not sell personal data to any third party.
UK and EU. Where a service provider processes data outside the UK or EU, transfers are made under the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or equivalent safeguards.
After these periods, data is deleted or anonymised.

Screening call recording and analysis involves systematic evaluation of individuals using automated processing. This is subject to a Data Protection Impact Assessment, which is documented and available on request.
